Well when I introduced my two boars to each other, the older one started to mount the younger one constantly. And even though the younger pig was neutered, they would spray each other and leave an awful smell. They eventually stopped. I suppose that it just takes a little bit of time, I think that they are just trying to see who is dominant and who isnt. I would guess that it will go on for about a week or two, but thats just how it was for my pigs. Hope that helps. |

Don't worry about it, my boys mount each other all the time; it's just something boars do when they want to be the dominant pig. He's not actually penetrating or even hurting the younger boy in any way, he's just asserting his dominance and letting him know who's boss. As the little one gets older he will probably stick up for himself more, maybe by head-butting him, or kicking his legs out when he gets mounted. But if there's no fighting (to the point of drawing blood) just leave them to it, and let them work it out for themselves. |

Don't worry. Just stay back and make sure no fighting happens. The mounting will go on until they get their dominance isssues sorted out. I have read that it may take about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. |

When I introduced Scruffy (who was 3 weeks old) to three older boars, he went through about a 24 hour period of practically non-stop trying to hump everything that moved. Then he settled down. One of those older boars, Crumble, rumblestruts every single day. He doesn't try to mount, but it seems like every day he needs to reassert his place in the cage. There is also a little bit of chasing, nose offs and teeth chattering between the boys sometimes. Overall, they get along well though. A huge cage helps! You may see days, weeks, or even months of this behavious, but you should find it lessen in frequency and severity. They might always have times where they show this behaviour though. So long as they are not drawing blood, you are doing great. It's perfectly normal behaviour. However, if there is ANY doubt in your mind about the sex of your guinea pigs, get them checked out by a vet for a second opinion. You might want to post pictures of their genitals on here to see if everyone agrees they are males. If you do decide on the buddy bath then yes, redo intros in a totally neutral place after the bath with lots of veggies and/or hay to distract them. Clean the cage out thoroughally - including water bottles, food dishes, hideys etc - get rid of their scent in every way from the cage. Make sure you have at least two of everything in the cage - hideys, water bottles, food dishes, etc. All hideys should have at least two exits. You could always use cardboard boxes with two doors cut into the side. Good luck! |

My boys do it all the time. They all want to be in charge, except for Pumpkin Spice. |
