How much should they weigh I have two female pigs, I got them last august so I am assuming they are full size. IN Jan they weighed 1 lb 14oz, and now they weight 2 lbs. Is that normal

Re: How much should they weigh Piggies all grow at different rates. Your piggies sound as though they still may be growing, so don't expext them not to get bigger. I would say they are right on track, but still weigh them every week to make sure there is no weight loss! Weight loss is a sign of illness!

Re: How much should they weigh Sounds normal to me, if you feel really insecure, you could check with your vet. I read that a nonpregnant female over 900 grams is overweight. Also, its not good if their weight fluctuates a lot. I think a particularly pear-shaped piggie might be overweight, so see if your pigs are pear shaped.

Re: How much should they weigh Not necessarily Sophistacavy. I have 3 girls over 1000g and my vet thinks they are absolutely normal.

Re: How much should they weigh I don't really think that there isan ideal size for a guinea pig. You get different sized pigs, just like you get different sized people, and there are a lot of factors that contribute to the size of your guinea pig. For example, I have a five month old boy who is huge, but that's not because he's overweight, it's beause he's a Rex, and Rexes tend to grow much larger than most other breeds. So don't worry about your pigs being an "ideal" weight, just let them grow to a weight that is ideal for them. Keep a check on them to make sure they don't lose weight, and if you're feeding them correctly, that's all you need to worry about.

Re: How much should they weigh I also have perfectly healthy females who are around 1200 grams in weight. I believe they grew bigger because they had a great diet from birth. They do not look overweight at all - they are just big piggies. My boys who I've had since birth are closer to 1300 grams.

Re: How much should they weigh There isnt really an ideal weight for guinea-pigs. I have been through this stage as one of my guinea-pigs got VERY over weight. The vet said to me that it doesn't matter what weight your guinea-pigs are because some guina-pigs are naturally big and heavy. P.S. Hope I helped.

Re: How much should they weigh Pigsforlife I think maybe you mean Bandit - my foster piggie who gave birth to 6 pups?? They are 4 months old now. I am working on adopting Twinkie (the runt) and still have Sadie (also female) as a foster. The rest of the babies have gone to good homes. Sadie weighs 793 grams and even wee Twinkie has almost caught up to her sisters at 735 grams. Zack, one of the boys, far outweighed his sisters when he was adopted - he was at 850 grams and that was a month ago!! I'm not sure what he weighs now.
