The burrowing has begun

Bean has taken a liking to burrowing under the fleece.... she's never done this before although I knew it was a possibility for my pigs to try it -- I have two fleece blankets in the cage because the one isn't long enough. Really it's just the one fleece that goes about 4grids out of 5 lengthwise, and then another fleece that I cut that just covers the rest (so they're not double layered)

The longer fleece therefore has a way to burrow under... I don't have any bricks but I have tried putting their pigloos at the edge of the fleece and up until just a few days ago this worked fine. Now it seems like Bean's favorite thing to do is to get under there and sleep. (Baby Freya, who's now 6 weeks happy and healthy, is starting to do it now to... Marley however doesn't seem so interested in burrowing) -- I'm worried they could get under there and suffocate. Is this possible? If they're smart enough to get in you think they'd know how to get back out. But still, it worries me.

I want to go and get a fleece that will fit the entire cage (2x5) but I don't know where a fabric store is around me. Ragshop closed down and the only other place was Target that sold fleece by the yard. I might just try sewing the one fleece to the other. I guess that'd work...

Anyone have any tips besides using bricks?

I'd also really like to expand the cage more soon. The baby is almost as big as Marley and Bean, but I'm still not sure about de-baby proofing just yet.

Re: The burrowing has begun

Have you tried PVC pipe?

We have the smallest PVC pipe around the cage and tape the fleece over it almost like an envelope so that they do not get under the fleece... plus it keeps the fleece pulled tight and looking a lot neater.

Re: The burrowing has begun

My cage has no coroplast so I just tuck my fleece under the grids. It works really well. My pigs pull on it as hard as they can and it still doesn't budge.

Re: The burrowing has begun

Have you tried going to a household store like walmart and buying a fleece blanket? You could cut to fit.
