Re: What is?

Wry neck/head tilt is usually caused by an inner ear infection but can also be due to neurological injury/infection/tumor.

It isn't fatal but the underlying issue that could be causing it needs to be addressed.

Ear infections are painful, could result in the animal going deaf and could also spread internally and cause major health issues. If it's neurological the cause must be determined to treat the issue (if treatable).

Wry neck itself is a balance issue. It's rather like the world is spinning and the poor animal cannot keep it's balance properly. Without treatment wry neck can become permanent.

Re: What is?

My guinea pig had an inner ear infection which caused her eyes to move back and forth really fast, she was stumbling, her head kept tilting. It was one of the scariest things I've witnessed. I was so worried about my baby.

I'm so glad I called the vet that night and got her better! It is a very scary thing to see, though. Like VooDoo mentioned, it was like everything was spinning and I know she was so scared. She kept trying to eat and run and she couldn't.
