juniormylove, that is not very good information that you are giving to cowgirl. You are supporting petstores in a forum that is against them. That is just rude.

Re: Im going to get a guinea pig soon................

Cowgirl411, I give you credit for reading and researching before you get a piggie! I love the idea of a minor (of any age) with parent consent getting a piggie from a shelter or rescue. That alone shows you have a love for animals. Most minors would just run to the petstore and buy one, so thank you for rescuing a piggie!!!

I think you will do just fine as a piggie parent! But please continue to read and ask questions as they arise. This is the best site I have found to get good quality information. And don't let a few negative people turn you away from coming on here and reading good information. If you have any questions just ask!

You will need to make a nice big cage for your new friend/friends! They will be happiest in the biggest cage possible. A C&C cage is less expensive and better than any petstore cage. Petstore cages are way to small for even one pig!

Keep reading, and enjoy getting ready for your new piggie!!!

My intention is not to hurt anyone's feelings. Let's be adult about this. My intention is ensure that a guinea pig goes to a home that is ready and prepared for it. We are not talking about an object, but a living breathing creature. I, as a passionate cavy owner first and foremostly have the cavy's welfare at heart.

Perfect example: OSUCavies PMed me about the food in one of my GP photos. They were concerned about what I was feeding my GP's. I did not take it personally, I did not get offended; but instead took the advice onboard from an experienced and concerned cavy owner. I now feed my GP's a much better diet thanks to OSUCavies and the wealth of information provided on this site.

Your posts have shown you are unprepared at this moment in time, but you are doing the right thing by asking other members for advice. Another really good idea is to read all you can on this website.

I merely want you to take the advice given by other experienced cavy owners before taking the plunge and adopting.

This is boarding on ridiculous now.

Being 'concerned' when someone who is displaying behaviour that indicates that a future cavy may not get the care it requires because they are not yet prepared is not being negative. It's being realistic.

I said to look at rescues first! but if that fails, getting a pet store guinea pig isn't going to kill you. I love my MEIJER guinea pigs just as much as I would love an adopted one. Don't tell me it's rediculous, because that's just rude.

-sigh- I didn't mean to stores and random places, but around the house with her. he hangs out with her when shes in her room, on the computer watching tv, that sort of thing.

what? that adopting isn't the only way to get a pig? I'm sorry, but it's true. Hate me if you want.

Rude? I'd call rude bashing me because I didn't follow YOUR 'rules' on adopting and never going to a petstore.

This is why I was warned against joining this. Maybe it's time to find a more open-minded forum.

Now you're just being ignorant. If you cannot find a guinea pig to adopt, then why get one at all? Why would you even TELL a new member (such as yourself) to do something like that? Are you NOT aware that we do NOT support BREEDING and telling another person to take that as the "last resort" is UTTERLY ridiculous...and I'm not being RUDE, I'm being TRUTHFUL.

Yes I think it is. This forum does NOT support petstores or breeding. It is a pro-rescue forum. Lets see if the following paragraph will enlighten you:

Breeder cruelly back breeds sow, rips the babies away unweaned, after travelling for hours, days even, they arrive at the petstore sick. Petstore cant sex them, so the babies reproduce. Babies get even more sick because the petstore doesnt care to take them to the vet. Petstore sells pigs on to people providing awful information and supporting impulse purchases.

Meanwhile. For every pig that has been bred another pig in a shelter is put down whilst many others suffer.

Juniormylove-

I agree with OSUCavies on the fact that they can become very stressed out if they go everywhere. It is like if you were put into a strange place every single time you and whoever go somewhere. Being placed in an unfarmiliar area can be quite confusing and stressful right?

I bought Coco from a petstore and I wish that I could have adopted him. I was just careless about the fact that I could have adopted a homless pig. But I am glad that I got Coco out of the petstore, and he went to someone who saw a loving animal in him, not just another way to make a profit! (like many major petsore owners do!)

I try to support petstores as little as I can! The only thing I do, is buy food, hay, and bedding.

perhaps not everyone supports adoption!

the only place they ever have guinea pigs near me is terrible to deal with.

truthful in what YOU believe in.

what does me being a new member have to do with anything?

ugh I'm done with this forum. Everyone told me not to join it, that it was full of snobs but noo i decided to give it a chance. hah well the whole vegetarian thing (I see there's no pro-slaughter place) and the fact that you guys shoot down anyone and anything different then what you believe in. This forum disgusts me. Goodbye.

Re: Im going to get a guinea pig soon................

You are a member of this forum, so you respect the rules. If you dont agree with them then go. This forum is an anti-breeding, anti-petstore. If you dont agree with this then perhaps this forum is not the right place for you.

People here do not push vegetarian/veganism (if thats such a word) on people. They give people the choice. The vegetarian forum is here for those that are vegetarians/vegans.

No-one gets shot down. You are over-reacting. No-one is a snob.

Alright, alright everyone, lets just stop arguing. Lets just enjoy ourselves on this wonderful site, and learn about guinea pigs. I know that's why I'm here, I don't want to see people arguing, since this site is truly meant to be enjoyed.
