Question Preparing for new piggies

I am looking for suggestions ..... our two current piggies are currently bonding in a neutral area with 3 more girls, fingers crossed they all get on!

I am in the process of cleaning up their C&C cage and "their" dining room. I have washed all the rugs (which we will use under new fleece we have bought) and cleaned the food bowls, water bottles and pigloos in water with sterilising tablets in it (the ones used for cleaning human babies bottles). I've sprayed the fiddlesticks liberally with cage cleaner and left them to dry.

Still to do - sweep out the room, hoover the carpets and wash out the Correx.

Any ideas on what else I can do? I'm trying to make their area smell as neutral as possible, so they stay bonded. I just want to make the introduction to the new room (for the newbies) and the old room but with a much larger roaming ares (for the oldies) as stress free as possible.

Re: Preparing for new piggies

Try washing the coroplast with some vinegar and water (half and half). Also do the same with any water bottles, food bowls etc. I would take any pigloos and place them in the dishwasher to remove any scents. I am not sure about using sterilizing tablets and how they work with smells. Best of luck...

Re: Preparing for new piggies

I use vinegar and water as well and it really helps alot. I've even had a food bowl or pigloo have some dried on poop and if you'll soak it in the vinegar/water mixture, it'll help dissolve it.

Good luck with the cage bonding. I have 4 boys who are together and get on very well, we also have 2 boys who didn't bond with the other 4 and are in separate cage. Hope all goes well!

I was also going to suggest the dishwasher. Most things made out of plastic can go right in the dishwasher. My pigloos go in every once and a while and come out looking great!!
Good luck with your pigs
