Introduction of new piggies to each other

About 2 months ago we found a piggie on craigslist, who was in a little wire cage, She is about 2 1/2 yrs old, "Lizzy". We finally found her a friend on craigslist, she is also about 2 yrs old. Her 2 babies were given to another family who didn't want the mom, "Sassy" is so sweet. We built them a CC cage and actually put grids in the middle as a divider. My problem is:

How long before I can put them together? I don't think Lizzy has ever been around another piggie before, based on the conditions of her previous home.
Sassy is bigger than Lizzy, and Lizzy is a bit skittish, but neither has ever bitten and both welcome petting and lap time once you get them!

We are also looking at getting a couple more now too! LOL

Any tips or ideas will be welcomed!!!

Re: Introduction of new piggies to each other

Hello

Hae you quarentined your new pig? They need to remain apart for 3 weeks, just in case of illness, mites etc. I also had a single piggie and I recently (about a month ago) adopted 2 new pigs. At first they all fought quite a bit, and didnt get along. So after a few times of trying and no success, I did a buddy bath. Again, right after the buddy bath they started teeth chattering so I decided to have them all snuggle side by side inside a towel for 5 minutes. Right away, I saw improvement and much less of the teeth chattering. I placed them in their c&c cage and within about 2 hours the fighting pretty much ceased. They have been together now for about a week and only quible over bits of food, but overall it has been wonderful.

Good luck with the bonding. I have 4 boys who are in the same cage and do well together. Guinea piggies are very addictive, I have 6 in total and I am in love with each one.

Here is a great page with information on this topic:

get to the part I copied here and read the whole section.

Have patience, take your time, always on neutral territory, and don't give up too soon. Brief words of wisdom for introducing guinea pigs.

You've honored the quarantine period, your new piggie is healthy and you are ready to introduce him or her to your other guinea pig(s).

What you don't want to do is plop the new guinea pig into your existing guinea pig's cage. Never try to introduce guinea pigs in one of their cages. Be prepared. This may happen in one afternoon or it may take months!
