Popcorning scared my son

I just had to share this funny story about what happened today. When my son gets home from school he always go down to see our piggies. He went down there and a few minutes later he came upstairs yelling and screaming and was very upset. He said there was something wrong with the guinea pigs. I asked him what was wrong and he said they were jumping around all funny and running all over the cage.

I ran downstairs to see what the problem was and just started laughing. They were running around the cage as fast as they could and popcorning. This was the first time since we've got them (3 weeks now) that they have done this while he's been home. They usually do it in the morning when he's at school.

I had to calm him down and explain to him that they were just happy. He then enjoyed watching them popcorn and act crazy.

I had to share with someone since my husband looked at me like I was insane.

ha ha, that's cute! Thanks for sharing. I've always thought that if someone wasn't knowledgable about popcorning they might rush their pigs to the vet because they look like they are having seizures. I just love popcorning pigs

I love it! How old is your son? I think if I weren't with my kids the first time they saw our pigs popcorn they would probably have reacted the same way!

Thanks for sharing your story!

I was so glad I had read on this site what popcorning was, becasue if not I would have thought mine were having seizures. Thanks for sharing that about your son, I got a good laugh over that.

Re: Popcorning scared my son

My son is 7 and absolutely loves watching them. He is still a little nervous about holding them but does well with supervision. He is only allowed to sit on the floor and hold them in his lap so he can't drop them.

If it wasn't for this site and the links to some videos I would have probably rushed them to the vet the first time I saw them too.

Re: Popcorning scared my son

LOL! Thanks for sharing your funny story with us. I needed a laugh. Wherever I put Peanut down, he starts flippings his head around, and starts popcorning like crazy! Even if I just set him on the table for a second! But the even wierder thing is that he won't do it in his cage. Is this normal?

That's hilarious! What a sweetie your son must be. Once you know that they're just happy, it is so much fun to watch.

Re: Popcorning scared my son

I guess it's normal cause my one piggie does this wierd "bucking bronco" thing when he popcorns(he bends his back like a rodeo horse)and for 3 years now, I've been telling people how cute it is, but he won't do it in front of anyone but me!

Same thing here! He only does it in front of the worthy ones (the ones who give him veggies ). It is soooo weird!
