Re: Pregnant rescue piggy.. help?

You'll definitely be able to tell if she's pregnant if she gets more pear shaped! Keep us posted.

Re: Pregnant rescue piggy.. help?

Well, another mini-update. I got some good digital scales and it showed that my previous ones were pretty inaccurate. Ruffles is 608g and Daisy is 668g. They are both noticeably heavier than when we got them so I shudder to think what their weights were then!

I'm also 90% sure we have babies coming as Daisy is just too bulgy now. Ruffles has also started to get a little belly so we might have a surprise in store there too.

A question - can babies fit through grids with 4cmx4cm squares (1.5 inch)? Will I need to block them off above piggie height while they are small? If I can't do that effectively, do you think it would be ok to raise them in a smaller cage until they are big enough to be safe, or do they need lots of running space even while small?

Yes, the babies will be able to escape from those grids! What I did was take cardboard (10 inches high) and tucked it in behind the coroplast!

Here is a pic of my baby proof cage!

It is pretty easy to do! No reason to change cages!
Good Luck!

Re: Pregnant rescue piggy.. help?

Thanks, I'll be sure to baby-proof the cage when we're getting closer.

It's only a 4x2 cage.. will that be big enough for babies plus 2 adult girls?

Re: Pregnant rescue piggy.. help?

My girls are in a 2x4 cage with a 2x2 loft at the moment. I think that is big enough for 2 adults and the babies for a while. Once the babies get bigger I will be putting them into a 8 ft. x 8 ft. free range area. I think the bigger the better is the best! What ever you can do for them will be fine, just remember that if you can make the cage bigger (once the babies are bigger) then please do it!

Re: Pregnant rescue piggy.. help?

Will do Cubes are pretty cheap here. The only limiting factor is how to keep the roof strong enough with a larger cage as I have cats and need the cages to be enclosed.

I'm starting to think about two connected cages with a passageway...

Great idea! I have also seen people make an L-shaped cage and have a cover on it! You can look in the photo gallery under the covered cages, for ideas!
