Confusing? I adopted two babies on saturday. They are under a month old. They make sqeaking noises throughout the day. So my question is how much of the sqeaking is for food and how much is for attention? They are not on a set schedule yet but will be in a couple of weeks.

Re: Confusing? Squeaking noises can mean anything since guinea pigs are very talkative and will always talk to each other. If it's a loud squeal which happens when you get near the cage, it's probably a call for food. And sorry but I find it absolutely irresponsible of whoever gave you those pigs to separate them from their mother at such a young age. Four weeks is far too early for them to be on their own even though they -look- like they can fend for themselves.

Re: Confusing? Actually males HAVE to be separated from all females at 3 weeks because if they aren't they will begin reproducing with mom and sisters. So getting 1 month old babies is perfectly fine. They are probably just squeaking a lot because they are missing their mom and they are a little scared in the new environment. Give them lots of love and get them on a schedule sooner than later.

Re: Confusing? Everything is new to them. It might just be talking. Some pigs talk more than others. It also might be reassuring each other. When I had babies they loved to make squeeky noises. Popcorn learned how to rumble strutt early. It was so funny watching a 2 week old baby wiggle his butt and rumble. hysterical.
