Question about my picky piggies...

I have two water bottles in my 2x6 C&C cage.

They're about 6-8 inches apart, but on the same side.

Both are leak-free bottles and are at the same height.

For whatever reason, my piggies are drinking only from ONE water bottle. The one on the right, they won't touch! I have checked it numerous times and the water does come out of both, but I don't understand why they aren't using it at all. I will see one go and take one sip out of it, then go straight to the other one?!

Has anyone else had their pigs do this? I actually thought I needed to add another one (I have four piggies) so they had three water bottles, but they aren't even using the second one.

It's not a big deal, as my piggies get plenty of water and are never without it, but I'm just scratching my head as to why they won't drink from the one bottle.

Re: Question about my picky piggies...

As an experiment, I'd swap the positions of the two bottles, to see if it's one of the bottles they prefer, or one of the locations. It might help to solve the mystery (especially if it's one of the bottles -- then I'd guess that there is something wrong with it -- maybe a bad taste or something if there is bacteria trapped in the nozzle or something?)

Re: Question about my picky piggies...

I think it is the location. When I just had the 2 boys, one water bottle would always be emptier than the other. When I filled them I know they didn't always get put back exactly where it came from. It always seemed to be the bottle that was on the left.

Now with the 4 pigs I have 4 bottles. They are all along the front of the cage. They all seem to prefer the ones in the middle but will use the others.

As long as they have them both available and they are both full and working I wouldn't worry too much.

That is so strange.

I wonder why they do that!?

What silly piggers.

Re: Question about my picky piggies...

Mine do the same thing! I had two water bottles, pretty much next to each other in the cage for my two girls.. They would only use one.. -sigh- I moved the other to the bottom now since I currently have 2 levels.

I would go ahead and try moving one over to the complete other side. That might solve things..
