Our "little" (1335g) boy Splash is having surgery this Thursday. He's just over two years old. One day when doing the boys' wheekly sac cleaning, we noticed one of Splash's nipples was swollen and discolored. Our vet, who is AWESOME, drained some fluid and thought that was all it was. However, he did find a small mass just under and to the left of his nipple near his testicle. We're hoping he can get the whole mammary tumor in one shot, and that it's not malignant, so he can still live a productive life. We are going to have that removed along with a benign trichoepithelial cyst on his rump. I am very hopeful that he will be fine. I have already consulted Lynx and Mum on the GL board and they have been very supportive. Wish us luck! Splash loves you all! ![]()

Re: Splash has a tumor... We dropped off Splash at 8:30 a.m. this morning, and he's going into surgery as I am writing this. I am surprisingly calm, but my wife is kind of a wreck. When she was little, she had a dog that went into convulsions, and it never came out of it. I'll keep you posted as I learn more.

Re: Splash has a tumor... Good News! Splash came through the surgery just fine! He is currently waking up from the anesthesia so we'll be able to take him home this evening. WOO HOO! ![]()

Re: Splash has a tumor... Oh my gosh...I just saw this. How's little Splash doing today? How's your wife doing? I can sympathize with her. I totally lost it when Ruby had surgery for ovarian cysts (she came through just fine). We're sending you best wishes for a comfortable, speedy recovery Splash!

Re: Splash has a tumor... Quick update: Splash is home and seems pretty happy. He even ate half his veggies on the way home from the vet in his anesthetic stupor! He's got two big shaved patches which looks so much worse than it is. ![]() The only thing I haven't seen him do is drink water yet. I know he is getting some hydration from his veggies, but I'm thinking of syringing him some water to be on the safe side. We also got a new batch of Critical Care (the other expired), so I'm thinking of supplementing with that anyway to give him some extra nutrients and such. Thanks again for all your support and love. ![]()

Re: Splash has a tumor... Way to go, Splash! The extra water and Critical Care sounds like a good idea until he's on his feet again. Kudos to you and your wife for being such good piggy parents. Also to your wonderful cavy saavy vet! We'll continue to keep Splash in our thoughts for a full recovery. ![]()
