I adopted my 2nd Cavy! She recently had babies (2) and is already much friendlier then Roxanne, her sister who I also own. I am able to pick her up with no fuss and she is very cuddly and curious. The complete opposite of Roxanne, who at the slightest movement scurries into her hay box or under her tent. She was already alone for a week and a half after her babies were separated and showed no sign of illness, so I decided to let her and Roxanne out to play together. Things were going well, but then all of the sudden they were fighting. Now I'm afraid to put them in the same cage. So Roxanne is in the C&C and NoName is in a store bought rabbit cage that resembles a C&C cage but is much smaller. The two cages are next to each other in hopes they will get adjusted to each other through the bars, is this a good idea? Also, she needs names! I have another pig named Roxanne/Roxy and a dog named Rhodi, so I'm thinking I'd like to stick to the "R" theme. I'm drawing a blank though. Anyway, on to the pictures!

Re: New pig! Pictures, a question, and names?! Yes, keeping the cages near each other can help the situation. Next time you introduce them sanitize everything. NOTHING should smell like one pig or the other. Throw out all the cardboard and the wood(wood at least until they get along). I like her coloring, from her right side, she looks like a DEW, from her left side she looks like she is trying her hardest to be a dutch. She is a teddy?

Re: New pig! Pictures, a question, and names?! Thanks for the compliments, and she is a Teddy. I have no idea what her coloring would be considered, as you can tell one side is split and the other is 99% white. She has spots on her ears and both her eyes have a red tint to them, contrary to what is shown in the pictures..they were red-eye corrected. They were introduced on completely neutral territory, not even in my bedroom where they live.

Re: New pig! Pictures, a question, and names?! I like the name Rory! By the way, she is adorable!!! And so is Roxanne! When they fought, did they draw blood? My girls often fight but they don't draw blood! I know it is just something they do to prove their dominance! I know you are supose to introduce them in a neutral area. Not in the cage or in an area where Roxanne normally has floor time! I hope things work out for you and the girls. Good Luck!

Re: New pig! Pictures, a question, and names?! There was no blood drawn, but I broke them up before it got to that point, if it would have.

Re: New pig! Pictures, a question, and names?! Good point NPM, pigs will sometimes bicker. But as long as they don't turn into a flying ball of fur, they can co-exist. Mine always bicker after cage cleaning, because they are trying to get their scent onto as much as possible and get upset when they smell the other guinea pig. As for her color(variety) she would just be concidered a Broken Color.

Re: New pig! Pictures, a question, and names?! Now that they are next to each other I've been watching them. Roxanne will come over, stick her nose through and waggle her butt all over the place if NoName comes to the bars. NoName doesn't make any sounds and really doesn't care what Roxanne does. Roxanne will sniff sniff, waggle her butt then scurry off popcorning. Its really funny to watch. I should make it clear that they really are honest to goodness sisters from the same litter! I didn't just say that because they both belong to me and therefore are "sisters". A friend owned the mother, I don't know the full story as to how they got separated and one got pregnant, but they are sisters.

Next time you try intros leave them alone unless there is blood drawn, it can be nerve wracking but fighting is normal in intros. give yourself plenty of time to do intros because it may take a couple of hours before you feel like you can put them in a cage together. If you feel really unsure about it you can try bonding them in a buddy bath. |

Re: New pig! Pictures, a question, and names?! Definitely, if there is no blood drawn or serious injury inflicted, don't separate them. They have to work it out, despite how much it may stress you out.

Re: New pig! Pictures, a question, and names?! They are now happily living together. They were having mighty fits last night/early this morning chewing on the bars, making all sorts of sounds, digging into their fleece trying to find a way out, waging an all out guinea war against their cages! Now mind you this was close to two hours between 2 and 4am and I had to get up for 7 this morning. So they got a wirlwind intro while I was cleaning the C&C cage, then I put them together. No fighting, just sniffing, a bunch of sounds, and popcorning. I stayed up and watched them til 5am then went to bed listening for any sign of a scuffle and there was none. I woke up this morning and they were sitting next to each other under a corner towel tent. Phew!
