Tresaderm - poisonous?

Hi - I posted another thread about this but nobody responded and this is really important for me to know -- I've started giving my pigs Tresaderm and have problems getting it all the way in their ears because they shake out when I do it --- sometimes I fear it might get in their eyes and what seems more dangerous is that they will sometimes lick each others ears afterwards and I want to make sure this isn't going to harm them. Since it's a medication I can't imagine it being good if they swallow any --- please let me know. Thanks!

Re: Tresaderm - poisonous?

I am not familiar with this medication.

I would try guinealynx.com for this, as they are more familiar over there with medications, etc.

Guinea Lynx :: Medications

It is not on a list of medications, so maybe it is not safe? I am not sure, sorry.

I think pigs are often treated with Tresaderm for ear infections.

Anyone?

Re: Tresaderm - poisonous?

So if they are often treated with it, then it must be safe for them?

But who is the source of telling you they are often treated with Tresaderm?

You could as a cavy savvy vet?

Yeah the vet I went to is knowledgable on small pets, but he's not an exotic pets vet. After I got home I googled Tresaderm and tons of links came up from other guinea pig forums (I think?) and people said they were using tresaderm for their pigs with much success.

I didn't read anything about their pigs licking the other pigs ears though, so while I believe it's safe for their ears, I don't know if it's safe if it gets in their mouth.

I'm really surprised nobody on this forum has any information about this medication or hasn't used it.... that makes me wonder how good it could be, which is why I'd really like to find an answer on this. I'll call the vet tomorrow.

Re: Tresaderm - poisonous?

Okay I'm googling more and now am really worried. I still see a number of pages that tells of people using tresaderm on their pigs, but then I came across this website:

Tresaderm

And now I am worried I could be harming them with this medication. I will immediately stop using the tresaderm on Marley who is pregnant. She wasn't the one with the ear infection anyway, but the vet said to give to her because it could spread to her from Bean.

I am at work right now and forgot my cell at home. Would it be in any way possible for anyone on this forum to call their guinea pig vet and ask about Tresaderm for me? I would appreciate it so much.

Re: Tresaderm - poisonous?

Either those or Baytril drops twice a day would work but if your guinea pigs are under a year and one is pregnant, you'd likely want to stick with tresaderm.
