ouch!

My guinea pig was in her cage so i put my hand in to pet her and i petted her near the back end and she reached to my hand and tried to nip me but luckily i just got out in time but whats wrong with her she used to be so nice

You touched her back? Or her rear? Some parts of their anatomy is sensitive.

Sometimes the nipping can be out of play. Did you have the scent of food on your hand - possibly lettuce, carrots or other food that you commonly give your cavy? Sometimes they catch the scent and mistake your hand for food as apiggy said above! At other times, their body can be very sensitive and tickelish. Each cavy will do that now and then - I promise it's not because she's being mean!

Have a look at this page http://www.cavyspirit.com/biting.htm - gives the reasons why a pig may bite and what to do to take that reason away.

If a pig suddenly starts biting when being petted, mites is a possibility. Mites make their skin uncomfortable, so being petted is uncomfortable for them http://www.guinealynx.info/hairloss.html#mangemite.

well shes kinda mad with me cos i brushed her hair and she had tangles and also i gave her a bath which she hates and also i put her in a small cage until i can give away my male guinea pig so maybe theres reason to hate me
