Help!!!

 <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT=""> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/grin.gif ALT=" >D"> :smokin: [center] 0] |I :rollin: Hi! I'm new to guinea pigs and have just reared 3 3 weeks old babies 3 days ago. I have encountered a few problems and hope that you can help me answer.

1) I have noticed all my 3 guinea pigs jumping about like crazy from time to time. Is it an illness, infestation or dancing frenzy??? They seem to also jump once or twice when they hear sudden noises.

2) At what age should I stop feeding them alfalfa hay and feed them timothy hay instead??? I'm afraid of them having stones in their bladder when given alfalfa hay when they are not babies anymore.

3) I often hear them squeak softly when I stroke them or cuddle them at my lap. Are they scared or happy??? Web sites describes squeaks as being scared... hope they are wrong this time.

Please answer my questions fast!!!

And that's all!!! Thanks for looking at my post. :: 8o :| :rollin:

Re: Help!!!

hi
The jumping sounds like popcorning, which means they are happy.
You can stop feeding alfafa at about 6 months, but I think some people do feed it longer

Re: Help!!!

We are looking to acquire two cavies and we would appreciate any help concerning breeders and cages.

We live near Destin, FL and would appreciate any advice about the cage environment and what we should get to start with.

Thanks.

Sarah

Re: Help!!!

sounds like the jumping around is a happy thing. i still feed my guinea pig alfalfa and shes 2 now. i've never heard of stopping it altogether. my gp loves it! as for the soft squeaking, i dont think shes really scared. is she shivering too? or she could be a little weary but it will turn into a purring sound which is a wonderful happy cute sound. you know they're content when you hear that.
