3 sows 1 boar??

I should have never looked! Today a friend called me and said that petstupid had found an abandoned guinea pig in a box outside the front door this morning. So I went to look at him *sigh* he was in fact left outside as she said, he is an adorable big boy about 3 years old and he is the most sweet and tame pigger that I have ever met. I was skeptical and asked a ton of questions, basically the store will give him to anyone who wants him, no money wanted. He appears to be in great health and just needs a good nail trimming.
So I left without him...and now I'm thinking about going back first thing tomorrow morning.

My question to all of you experts is how do you think a neutered male would do with 3 sows?? I would need to expand the cage but I am worried that my girls would hate having a boy live with them! What do you guys think???

If I don't keep him myself I'm thinking of at least fostering him until I can find him a good home.
*sigh, I just don't know what to do!!

Re: 3 sows 1 boar??

I would totally take him for the time being, that's just me.

And if it doesn't work out, find him a home on your own or at least find a rescue for him. It's worth a try. It might be a nice balance with your girls and you could get him neutered (it's an fairly easy procedure, my boy did great with it).

I bet he'd love to have three girlfriends

Re: 3 sows 1 boar??

Usually neutered male/sow combos work out. I have a neutered male with 4 sows. It used to be 5 but Trinity passed away

If he is an adult, he won't be as hormonal and constantly trying to hump them.

They open at 10 tomorrow, I'm going to be there when they open and pick him up! I can't stop thinking about him! I'm usually really good about saying no, but this little man was just so sweet!

Re: 3 sows 1 boar??

From what I've read, heard and seen as long as there's just the one boar they do quite well in mixed-sex groups.
