I saw about 30 guinea pigs today

I was on a road trip today. I covered about 60 miles all together. I went from shelters to petstores checking on guinea pig care. Even offered my advice to people adopting. I have to say I was both happy, sad and shocked by some of the care in all the places. Sad to say, I saw two petstores that gave more care to their pigs then a small shelter located outside of one of the towns I drove through. I almost offered taking a pig off one shelters hands because he had been there for 6 months and no one had even given the little guy a second thought.
I have to say, when you are in a mind set as mind, you see things you wish you didn't see. However, the families that adopted a pig today, I know went home a lot wiser on care.

Ya, the shelter where I got my pig Charlie from...they kept him in a 10 gal aquarium, with seeded food and no hay or veggies. Oh ya and cedar shavings, which is worse than some petstores. We got Chewie there too, but he was only there a few days since we told them to notify us as soon as they got another piggy in.

If shelters made a profit like pet stores, they could afford better care for their animals. They're non-profits. They can't give what they don't have.
