I took my baby in today to have an abcess drained and the wound looks horrible - i can hardly stand to look at it without crying. It looks as if he has a hole in his neck. I was wondering what I could do to make sure it stayed clean and not get infected. It would really help if someone has some ideas!

Re: Can someone please help me? When I treated for an abcess myself (I did not go to the vet at all) after the stuff was all gone out of the abcess. I used Hydrogen Peroxide to flush out the 'hole' for a couple days. So the tissue inside would dry up. After I used peroxide I used a little bit of Iodine twice daily. And with in 1-2 weeks everything healed nicely. I also kept her on towels as bedding until she was fully healed to prevent any more infection. (Her abcess was on her belly.)

Re: Can someone please help me? You really shouldn't use Hydrogen Peroxide. It is not recommended. If the vet wanted you to keep the wound flushed, he should have given you some Chlorhexiderm solution.
