Guinea Pigs vs Rabbits I currently have a guinea pig and he's great, but I am thinking about adopting a rabbit. Does anyone out there own both and can you tell me the differences in owning one or the other? Do you prefer your rabbit or your guinea pig?

Re: Guinea Pigs vs Rabbits I own both! A lot of people will tell you that bunnies are not cuddly and not a good pet but if you get them young enough there are as cuddly as a dog or cat. Mine gets free range of the house. He doesn't go upstairs because he hasn't figured out how yet (trying to teach him because I think it would be so cute) and he doesn't go into the kitchen because of the floor. They need a lot of space and a lot of running around floor time. You can house train them as well, or just pick up after them. They don't generally like to be held but if you hold them enough and love on them enough they will love it. Some bite others don't. Mine loves nose rubs! I personal put guinea pigs in a completely different category. Not even related in my book. But they both need lots of hay and veggies so be ready to fork over money on it! Of course a good quality pellet and vet visits. Wonderful creatures if you have the time to love on them.

Re: Guinea Pigs vs Rabbits I own two rabbits that I just LOVE to death. If I had to say which one is neater it is the piggies, my rabbits can be complete slobs sometimes. I have had my female since she was about 3 months old, and my male (they are both fixed) was between 3-4 years old when i adopted him. My guys dont have free range of the house as I have 3 cats and 3 dogs but they have a c&c cage with a pen attached to it that is open the minute i get down stairs and closed at night when i go to bed. If I had to pick my favorite it would have to be the buns. I have two opposite bunns too, one I can pick up with no problem at all , and rock her in my arms and she is a lover, and a licker. My male HATES to be picked up, but loves me . I attribute his lack of likeing to be picked up with his past , but I am ok with him and we do fine without me having to pick him up. They eat more then the piggies, and they eat more hay, though I am always filling someones hay here. They eat mostly the same things as piggies but there are somethings that i feed the piggies ,that arent a problem for them, but steet clear of for the rabbits.

Re: Guinea Pigs vs Rabbits Rabbits are completely different and more independent. Contact your local rabbit rescue to learn more about them House Rabbit Society Rabbit Care Guide They are frequently abandoned because people don't understand that they are not like the pet stores advertise them. They are not cuddly stuffed animals that like to be carried around.
