| Bah, Kinda Sad (Sorry if its a bit long, main questions are "**"ed) Welp I just adopted my second pig, and checked my current one's sex to be sure (First time a friend was the one to check it) and I must've done something right because thinking it was a girl... out pops its weaner. ![]() The one I adopted was a girl, the only one at the rescue too, and I'm kinda sad because I can't put them together, I also messed up on my coroplast measurements, and wound up with a 2x3 cage instead of the 2x4 I was planning on. >.< **So I was thinking what if I had the dude neutered, would they go together fine? How much does it cost? How do I go about finding a vet to do that in my area?** My water bottle was leaking a lot, so I picked up one with two of the balls in it, but it barley gives any water, and my pig as to try for 10minutes to before it either gives up in frustration or has quenched its thirst. **Has anyone found a good water bottle that doesn't leak and still gives the piggies the water they want?** My new piggie seemed isn't skittish much at all, for two days. Now when I try and pet it while its in the cage it squirms away from me. I'm not sure why it would do that, but if I only put my fingers toward it, it comes up and licks/nibbles on them. It also itches/bites itself much like a dog does to get a flea, it only does it every three hours or so. It was in a tiny 1x1 cage or less at the rescue and I moved it into my 2x3 cage I got. **Is the itching a sign of anything or is it normal for a pig to itch after moving homes?** Thanks If you made it this far, and thanks for your answers. |

| Re: Bah, Kinda Sad Hello and welcome to the site. You have found the best place for information about your piggie. Yes, you can neuter your male and I'm sure he will live quite happily with your female. All surgery carries risks though. To minimize the risks, you would need to find a VERY cavy savy vet who has performed plenty of neuter operations. You will also need to be prepared to care for him after the surgery. Guinea Lynx :: Surgery http://www.cavyspirit.com/neutering.htm Guinea Lynx :: Post Operative Care A little scratching could be normal, but lots of scratching is not. Check your piggies and see if you can see anything crawling on them. If so, it's probably lice. If not, then it's possible they have mites. Please note they can have lice and mites at the same time. Mites are microscopic so you will not be able to see them with your naked eye. Guinea Lynx :: Mange Mites Guinea Lynx :: Lice PS it won't hurt to treat them for mites even if they don't have them. Also, you need to treat them both at the same time. It will take 3-4 treatments of ivermectin spaced about a week apart. |
