Exclamation cavy's not getting along!

[font=Times New Roman]
Hi Everyone

I'm new on these forum's, and a new cavy owner. i have two cavies, named sparky and patches. with sparky it was love at first sight, and i brought him home only to find out that it was somewhat cruel to keep them alone. so i went out and baught patches. despite all the ominous talk, they seemed to get along pretty well, but recently sparky, usually being very friendly, has been seeming very nervous and jumpy, and i feel that patches , being older, may be bullying him. patches has also been mounting sparky, and when petting him today i found a sticky spot on his side, i neednt say what i believe it to be. ,i seperated them and sparky seems a lot calmer. is it exactly as it seems? or am i just missing something to do with their behaviour? should i take patches back to the store and try with another, younger, one?

thanks

How big is your cage? What kind of setup do you have? Do you have 2 of everything? Maybe they just need more space.

Have you treated for mites? How old are each of them?

Re: cavy's not getting along!

Don't return, please give it up for adoption to a rescue. I know it's a bit extrs money, but it's worth it.

It definitely could be the space issue. However, it sounds like they get along just fine if that's all that went on. One was just a bit overly excited, it's normal when they're first being introduced. Just try it again, and see www.cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm for more info.

Re: cavy's not getting along!

I agree, without there own personal space, cavies can get mighty nasty towards each other. I would know, my two cavies didn't have enough room and started attacking each other, so I just separated them. That was before I was so informed though, so I suggest just working hard at that C&C cage and also, in case you hadn't, buy two of everything.
