diarrhea or false alarm??

Okay so when I woke up this morning I could smell this odor. It smelled like a combo of scent gland and diarrhea. (Although I have no idea what piggy diarrhea looks or smells like). When I fed Zacchy his veggies this morning (baby carrot, orange slice, green bell pepper and red leaf lettuce) he looked a little puffed up and his fur was all ruffeled. I saw no evidence of diarrhea in his cage but started to re-think giving him all those fruits and veggies just in case he did have diarrhea so I removed the pieces he wasn't eating on.

I said a prayer and looked up diarrhea on guinea lynx and a little later, maybe 20 minutes, I went to check on him again. He was no longer puffed up and his fur was back in place. I picked him up and there was no wetness around his anus and no other signs of illness I could see.

Who knows what I was smelling, but do you think maybe he was puffed up and ruffeled from keeping himself warm?

I usually have extra fleece in his cage when it is colder but it is in need of washing (which I'm planning on doing today). And Usually he is snuggled up inside his pigloo not in the fleece anyways when it is cold.

What do you all think? He is eating fine and acting himself I just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something.

Re: diarrhea or false alarm??

I would pop to the vets because a puffed-up coat means something can be wrong. Diarrhea can be very serious in piggies so if I were you I'd definately get it checked out.

Re: diarrhea or false alarm??

That was my first thought but after he ate a little and moved around some he looked and acted just fine. And like I said there was never any evidence of diarrhea.

Is it possible for a piggy to have diarrhea and not have any symptoms??

Re: diarrhea or false alarm??

Oh, sorry! I didn't read your post properly and I thought there was diarrhea in the cage. If you can't see any I probably wouldn't go to the vet, just keep an eye on him. Make sure he has plenty of hay for roughage and maybe less watery veggies just to make sure nothing develops. If you do see any evidence of runny poop I would get him checked out.
I'm not sure what the smell could have been maybe some one else can help with that?

Re: diarrhea or false alarm??

Okay good. I just wanted to be sure I was on the right track. The smell was probably just scent gland. I find that smell pretty offensive and have a fairly sensitive nose. Anyways, thanks for the confimation and I aplogize if the post was unclear.
