dry skin...????? Hello! I have a question concerning my guinea pig's skin. I have noticed on Clyde's back that there is a little patch of skin the is flaky. It's white flakes so I'm assuming that it is dry skin. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to treat this. He does alot of straching. Thanks for any advice. Anna

Re: dry skin...????? You pig sounds like it has mites. He'll need 3 shots of ivermectin each one week apart. Youll want to treat him ASAP - mites are very painful to guinea pigs.

Re: dry skin...????? When you go to the vet they are most likely going to want to do a skin scrapping. I wouldn't allow them to do this because they almost always come up negative when an animal is actually infested with mites. Just get the 3 treatments of ivermectin one week apart for three weeks.
