Piggie Weight?

i have two boars (Shaggy and Oscar) i would presume under one year of age for both. Shaggy is a "peruvian" and Oscar is a "self". now because of the different breeds will there be a differance is size and weight?

im asking becase Oscar is quite a bit smaller than Shaggy, he always has been. i dont think its a case of bullying because Oscar is the dominant one. i just bought a scale today and weight them.

Shaggy: 2lb 5oz
Oscar: 1lb 12oz

is this normal for them to weight this different? i see them both eat and drink all the time and neither of them "guard" the food.

thanks,

rob

Re: Piggie Weight?

Different pigs weight different weights. Part of it is in their genes and part of it is most likely contributed to the type of breed they are. Also part of a pigs weight has to do with what their diet has been like since they were born.

Re: Piggie Weight?

Does this mean I am feeding them the wrong pellets?

Re: Piggie Weight?

Not sure what you mean, but whilst we are on the topic of pellets, your guinea pigs should be getting a good quality plain pellet like Oxbow Pet Products | Welcome or Kleenmama's Hayloft :: Home. Pellets with coloured bits and seeds are fattening and pose as a choking hazard. They should recieve 1/8th of a cup per pig per day if they are over 1 year of age.

Along with good quality pellets they should also have good quality unlimited hay. Again Oxbow and Kleenmama's Hayloft are the best brands available at the moment. 1 cup of fresh produce twice a day should also be fed, this should mainly be made up of dark, leafy greens.

I dont have those specific brands but, I compared my pellets to a list I saw of proper pellets and ingredients. Timothy Complete seemed ok to me, or is it not so good? They also get unlimited hay and the proper amount of veggies.
