Hello, I will be purchasing two Guinea Pigs later this week, and have gotten all the supplies for them, as well as done alot of research. I was curious if anyone had any good tips for first time piggy owners? Two of my family members have had them in the past, but it's been quite some time. Any tips, suggestions or ideas, would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!! Sharon |

Please do not buy your piggies from a petstore...this site is against it. More often than not the piggies are ridden with health issues. Petstores often mis-sex pups and spit out false information. There are topics which are "stickys" and info threads at the top of the page if you would like more info. |

I too add my plea - please do NOT buy your piggies - please consider adopting!!! There are SO many piggies out there waiting for a good home and you could give them one. There are tonnes of shelters with gorgeous piggies waiting to meet someone like you! You can also check with vets in your area, post an ad, check online. Maybe someone on this forum lives close to you who is trying to rehome their piggies. You have SO many options. If you give us a general idea of where you live, I'm sure members on here can find you plenty of piggies to choose from to adopt! You will be saving a piggie and making room in a shelter for another piggie to be saved. Pet store piggies come from AWFUL conditions. Breeders don't care about the piggies or their health - they just care about making money. Piggies are very often sick and maybe even pregnant. I have read SO many threads on here about the horrors of pet store purchases. Please take the time to look around this site. You will soon see why this site is so against pet stores selling piggies if you read even a few threads on the topic. Have you decided to make a C&C cage for your piggies? It's much cheaper than a petstore cage and gives your piggies the room they need and deserve. You will need a good quality pellet like oxbow or kleenmama's. Your piggies will need unlimited grass hay and plenty of fresh veggies every day. http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/...arts-info.html will give you a great chart with all the info you need on feeding your piggies veggies - how much and how often. There are so many things to learn about piggies - I learn more every day. I congratulate you on doing research ahead of time. I wish I had! Please stick around, ask questions, search and read and learn. Your piggies will be healthier and happier because of it. |

Welcome to the forum! Petfinder.com is a great place to start looking for a piggy in your area that needs a new home. Here's a thread that provides a lot of valuable links for care info: http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/...ost-first.html. Let us know if you have any more questions. And when you adopt your piggies, make sure to post some pigtures! |

What supplies did you get? Have you read up here and at Guinea Lynx :: A Medical and Care Guide for Your Guinea Pig ? Ditto the above. Please adopt and save a life. Don't breed or buy while shelter pets die. |

Welcome,it's great you are researching before getting them, and have all of their supplies. But please please adopt, rather than purchase. There are so many in rescues and shelters that are looking for a second chance. |
