do I need supplement vit. c if he gets lots of veggies?

I give him lots leafy dark greens and various other veggies every day in addition to his pellets and hay. What's the best way to supplement if I should start doing that? Thanks!

now that summers right around the corner, a great way to give the extra vitamins they need is a simple cranberry flavored water:

take about 1/2 cup (i accidentally said 1/4 cup in the other post) of un-sweetened cranberry juice and 1/2 gallon of water in a gallon jug, and keep it on hand for them, i guarantee you they'll luv it, it gives them the vitamin c they need just incase if you're not sure if their getting enough, it's also a tasty treat, and it keeps their little kidneys and bladders clean =0).

you can also make them a summer salad: take a small amount of kale and romain lettuce, a bit of the guinea pig pellets and a couple of blue berries and raspberries, toss aand serve with love, =0). my girls love it so much, they've actually know when i'm gonna give it to them so they put on a piggie show for me and my friends who come over to visit, they start weeking and popcorning in the air, . my girls are such show offs

If you are feeding lots of leafy greens and other veggies there isn't really any need to supplement. It's worth knowing that if you feed a lot of vit c and then stop/lessen it for some reason the body reacts as if it is deficiant, even though actually it isn't. Feeding veggies that are high in vitamin c is fine. Never heard of cranberry juice being used like that. Cranberry is normallt use to help with urinary infections.
Personally I would just feed high vitamin c veggies and friuts rather than supplement.

yeah, cranberry is a great source of vitamin c for growing piggies, my vet that i take my girls to recommended it to me as just one source of vitamin c, and as my vet also says
"keeps everything regular", . i don't blame you for being skeptical, i was too. so i did a little research on the WWW and have found a couple of other piggie owners have been suggested the same thing by their vets. i give my girls two water bottles (one with plain water and one with the cranberry mix), so they have a choice through out the day, along with a balanced diet of fresh greens in the morning and lunch (incase there's anything left over, i can immediately throw it out before it spoils) a handful of hay with each meal, and the regular staple pellets for the evening and an apple as a good night snack (two small pieces each so nothing is left behind). yes, ill admit my babies are spoiled, but what can i say

It's good for them to have lots of veggies and I doubt they mind being spoiled Apples can cause mouth sores in some pigs though. i've not had a problem with any of my pigs and they have applea a few timea a week, but I know some people do. Also they should have unlimited amounts of hay to help keep their teeth down and also to keep their digestive system running well

My vet recommends mixing Tang with their water. I have actually heard this from several vets, and it is apparently a good source of vitamin C. So far so good with my two.

Just read about Tang being too high in sugar. Guess everything has its pros adn cons. I have, in the past, crushed vitamin C pills and mixed it into the water. That worked fine, but they have to be finely crushed.

Tang is too high in sugar! Please do not give it to your pigs. If you have a vet that is recommending Tang for vitamin C, you need a different vet. 1 cups of leafy greens per day will give them all the vitamin C they need daily.

If for some reason (medical) you find the need to supplement you should go to GNC or a store like Whole Food and get pure/plain vitamin C.

All that sugar is horrible for your pigs.
