How do i go about the first few days with the new pig?

should i try to pet her everything, or just completely ignore for awhile, do i want to give her time outside of the cage yet? I know she is very jumpy because whenever i jsut stand up she runs around frantically, poor lil thing. So, how should i try to get to know her for the next while without really scaring her? ty so much!

congrats on becoming a new cavy owner, . the first few days are gonna be slightly bumpy: what you'll wanna do is talk to her gently and try to bribe her with alittle bit of food and as shes eating, stroke her gently and talk to her, this way she gets to know and recognize your voice, she'll be startled at first which is normal, but after awhile she'll get use to the petting. as for floor time, you can try like on the third day or fourth, make sure there are no wires around or any really loud noise that might startle her and make her run away from you. with a little patience and dedication, she'll turn into the perfect piggie, .

Re: How do i go about the first few days with the new pig?

My friend has a piggie that has been super skiddish since the day she brought her home. To this day, she still won't let my friend hold her for more than 3 minutes. Strangely enough, she'll let me hold her and pet her for hours. While she spends all of her time nipping at my friend, she spends her time with me perching on my shoulder or under my chin. I tend to hold my piggies high on my chest, kinda as if they could feel my heartbeat. I find that the more securely they are held, the less skiddish they are.
