People have said to give about a cup of veggies a day, is that true? If I give them too many veggies will they get diarrhea and can I cut back on it before they get really sick and die? I know if you feed hamsters too many fresh foods it can really be too late, maybe it is different with guinea pigs? |

For some reason my piggy doesn't like any kind of lettuce, parsley or cilantro. I've tried kale, etc. and she just leaves it. So I've stopped trying but since it's been a while maybe I'll try them again and she won't remember she didn't like them in the first place. |

Do you use a measuring cup to kind of give you an idea of how much you should give or do you just eyeball it? |

Amelia, try cutting or shredding your veggies. A previous thread said this seems to work. Also, try kohlrabi leaves. Mine love them. Sierra, I just eyeball it. Don't get carried away with measurements. |

Me too. I never actually measure a cup. I probably end up giving them more than a cup each |

I don't think I've ever seen a kohlrabi! What does it look like? Do you find it in the produce section with other veggies? |

So it really doesn't matter if you give them too many veggies, if you can actually do that? All you have to do is watch to make sure they aren't showing any signs of diarhhea or sickness? Do they still have time to recover if they are sick? |

Yes, you don't really need to measure the veggies. Just give them a sensible amount, not too little or not too much. |

Amelia, the kohlrabi I bought was leaves only , there is also a root. I will try that part next. I found it in the produce section near the spinich, cilantro, parsley, etc. |

I was the one that mentioned it a while back about shredding the veggies. Mine were very young when they were introduced and they were not interested at first and they would run away from the bowl. So I tried two things different...I shredded the carrots and whatever else I could shred, and then cut things very thin and short that couldn't be shred, and I put it on a saucer (or a small plate) instead of a bowl. This seemed to work for me, and now I'm just trying new veggies all the time. Just keep putting it in there and soon they will try it I think! Good luck!! ~~Cheri~~ |
