What is this?

I tried to take a picture, but you couldn't even see what I was talking about.

I was doing a little 'examination' of Layla today to check her skin (for any scabs), I was checking her eyes, nose, all that jazz.

I got down to her feet and her feet appear to be fine except on her right front paw/foot there is a little callus looking thing on the side. It's located almost where an extra toe/claw would be. It's kinda curved looking like a toe, too. I really don't know what it could be, I even checked guinea lynx.

It's kinda grayish colored. I kept touching it to see if it hurt her, she wasn't squirming or squeaking to where it acted like it hurt.

But if it's something serious, I'm gonna be upset because I just took her in a week ago to the vet and shouldn't they have checked something like that?

Does anyone know what it could be?

Re: What is this?

A picture might really be helpful, but I thought either a polydactyly if you think it is an extra digit. Or a spur, which is like horny feeling piece of skin.

Re: What is this?

It doesn't look like polydactyly I don't think.

It's kinda of a darker grey color.

That's why I thought it might be dead skin.

Re: What is this?

It sounds like a spur. They are almost like a chesnut on a horse, the first time I founf one on new piggie, I thought it was a poo stuck on and tried to pull it off. I have one piggie with them and just give them a trim to keep them from hanging up on anything.

Re: What is this?

I spoke to you in chat about it too. It sounds like a spur to me. Spaz gets them on the side of her foot that are harder than the ones on the pad. I just clip them off with normal clippers each time I clip their nails.

Re: What is this?

I cut it off with no problem.

She didn't squeak or anything.

It was definitely dead skin.

There is a little more left by the padding of the foot, but I was afraid to get too far down because I didn't want to hurt her.

But I cut off about 85% of it.

So it must've been a spur.
