Popcorning?

Okay, i think my pig was doing this today. He was walking around like he had the hicups! It was too funny. Is this popcorning and is it good or bad?

Re: Popcorning?

Gabby, my 10 year old named one of our new pups Popcorn because it can't walk without popcorning around the cage. This pup really does it alot at night. They are so cute to watch. They like to run around the cage piggy back too. I don't think that's mounting. Not this young?

Re: Popcorning?

Yep, mounting can happen at a very early age, they can reproduce at 3 weeks. Mounting can be because of 2 things, either they are doing dominance behavior or they are mating. Is it your young one mounting your older one? If so i'd double check the sex of your young one.

My husband has been worried about this when he saw them doing it last night. Pookie had Popcorn and Coco Puff 13 days ago. I had read they will mount to show dominance or to play but yes Coco Puff was trying to mount his mom last night and Pookie kept running away. They crawl all over each other so I haven't been too worried because of thier age but since I can't pick them up long enough to sex them I'm going to take all three into a new Vet I found this Thursday to look them all over for health and to sex them before the 3 week mark October 17th. We don't want another surprised pregnancy.

Re: Popcorning?

Very good call. They are very difficult to sex the younger they are and the vet is by far the best person to do this. She should be ok until the 3 week mark however if you want to doubly make sure PM one of the moderators here to double check and/or post on guinea lynx as that is the best site for medical advice for your GP. Following the 3 week rule at the moment though i'd guess its just your young boy's wishful thinking!

Re: Popcorning?

A few days ago my daughter Gabby thought she saw the male organ on one of the pups but then when they were nursing the other night she showed me what she saw. As the little ones drink milk from Pookie their little rectum's push in and out. Its cute but its not a boy body part. I think we are too new at this to try sexing ourselves.

Re: Popcorning?

Have a look on cavy spirits sexing page, it can be a great help in differentiating between the 2. Its very easy to make a mistake. If you're still not sure post a pic of your piggies bits on the forum (i know this sounds wierd but every little helps) and people will help you sex them.

Re: Popcorning?

One of our piggie's, Splash, popcorns sideways. We call it a "Kung Fu Kick"! It's hilarious. I've been trying to capture it on video, but he just never wants to co-operate!

Our other piggie, Jackson, popcorned and cleared more than half the length of a 2x4 cage! SUPER PIGGIE!

My piggie flash, when he popcorns sometimes he will stop and just jump up and down. Its like an earthquake when he does it in the loft. Piggies are so cute.
