I just moved my pigs back into the basement for winter because its too cold upstairs. Heating isn't working. Does it take them a while to get used to the location? They're in the same cage but the room is much different. Its concrete and grey. Also, does this affect their behavior at all. They used to be in the basement all the time, but then we moved them upstairs when the boiler was smoking and kept them up there full time. Any answers? |

Are they all alone and without natural light? That would have a huge impact on them. You know this forum promotes the pigs being with the family. |

Mine are in my basement. We have a tv and video games, etc down there, so people are almost always down there with them. They used to be upstairs but my mom's slightly allergic and putting them in the basement helped her symptoms. They haven't changed from what I can tell. They figured out the noises from where I'm walking upstairs and where the kitchen is. So whenever they hear me walk into the kitchen, they squeak. |

Sounds like your basement is a different situation 4bwa. Yours is finished and part of the family living space, so it's a good place for them to be. Is your basement finished at all tomcat6? How often are people around them? |

If the basement is more of a storage area than a room, I would not recommend keeping pigs in there, away from your family. |
