Oh, ok. That would mean I would have 3 females. And the cage I have is only for 2.

Re: Babies

Do you have a C&C cage? You can easily expand it one more grid to make it compatible for 3.

Re: Babies

How big is your cage? So now you have 5 pigs in the cage right? I'm guessing it's waay too small for that many pigs. Why don't you build a C&C cage for the pigs you are keeping?

Right, 2 males and 2 or 3 females guinea pigs in the currant cage. The cage I have is 47"L x 22"D x 37"H. My mom wants the cage to be on wheels. Mom also said that I am calling the vet tomorow to find a date to bring them in.

Re: Babies

You can easily get a table on wheels and build a 2x4 cage for 3 females, if that's what you end up having.

Plus the cost of the cage we have now and the cost of a C&C cage.

Re: Babies

It costed me about $30 to build a 3x4 with a loft. C&C cages are very cheap.

Re: Babies

All you have to do it put the grids together with connectors, then put the coroplast in.

Re: Babies

Guinea_Pig---I am sorry that you have started your guinea pig parenting at a time where everything for you right now seems so overwhelming, but unfortunetly sometimes that happens---one of the big reasons we all learn NOT to buy from a petstore. Now though you have five pigs, unsure of their sexes, mom maybe pregnant again, all in a small petstore bought cage. I am hoping that you or your mom has taken the time to contact a vet in your area who can properly sex all of the pigs for you---That is the FIRST step on fixing your HUGE problem.

Lots of people have given you really good advice, but still I can tell you are confused and upset with everything that has fallen onto your lap in such a short time. I highly encourage you to begin to find great homes for the new babies. Many times guinea pigs are hard to find homes for, especially GOOD homes. The pigs are not ready to leave their mom just yet, but by the time you have new families lined up they will be.

The second thing I HIGHLY encourage you to do is look on the front page of this site and learn what Cavy Cages is and what we stand for. We promote large cages, that are not expensive to make, but benefit the health and well-being of your piggie. Seeing you missed all of that before you signed onto the forum you may want to take the time to go back and check out the design and concept.

The third thing I really think you need to do is read, read, and read some more. Guinea pigs are not a simple pet like petstores make them out to be. If given the proper care and diet they can actually be quite time consuming. The baby pigs need to be eatting alfalfa pellets right now, quality hay needs to be provided 24/7, and fresh veggies feed twice a day. I recommend you read these pages to start with...
Guinea Lynx :: Guinea Pig Care Guide

If you take the time to research and continue to learn, you can turn this whole unfortunate happening into something positive. I really encourage you to make a difference in these animal's lives, they depend on you.

Weaver, thank you for your kind words.
I have a vet appt. for this friday. All I have been feeding them is what I normally feed the adults. Pellets, water, hay, and veggies and fruits. Unless a C&C cage is the same size or really close to to the size I have now, I dont think my mom wants another bigger cage. Plus the cage we have now cost us alot of $. I will read the link that you have written. I have already noticed that they are time consuming. I only need to adopt out the male(s) unless our vet comes up with something.

Re: Babies

Your vet can not take them any sooner than Friday just to sex them out?? That will only take him like 5 minutes to do???

Truly I think if your mom will not allow you to have a larger cage to accomidate all if the pigs more comfortably, they would be better off rehomed. I understand you may want to keep them, but truly you need to take a step back and keep their best interests at heart. Let me use a example that you may understand and be able to relate too...It would be like your whole family living in a space the size of your bedroom---little bit crowded? Would'nt you want your house and space back? Same goes for the pigs, they need room to get away from one another, to run and to play. Would you like to live your life out, in your room, with your family, no place to play, to get away, or have space to yourself????----Just a thought, and one I think you really need to reconsider.

The vet is not just sexing them out, as they told me that he needed 45 mins. So I doubt he is just sexing them out. The most I will have in the cage after I adopt them out is 3 pigs. I couldnt put on a second level or something?
