Re: Babies

Do you have an exotics vet that can check to be sure? You don't want to mis-sex them again. To find the males new homes, try posting around on different guinea pig forums in the adoptables section, on Cragislist or in your newspaper. Be sure to have a small adoption fee to keep out anyone who may want them for snake food.

Re: Babies

Bring them all to the vet to be sexed so you don't risk mis-sexing them again.

Dont have clue. If the vet is having me bring them in, then I will ask him to sexed them. If not I will look around for a guinea pig rescue place. If I dont know whitch one is the Dad , how do I keep them apart?

Re: Babies

You want to sex them as early as possible. Before the babies turn 3 weeks. Seperate them as soon as you know for sure. When is the vet appointment?

I am calling the vet tommorow, and talk with him and see if he wants me to bring them in. I figured out the babies sex(I think). I just have the parents left to sexed.

I will.
Its annoying as I cant figure the parents sex out and everyone is telling me to keep them apart. Plus that the sow is pregnant again.
Is the sow going to alright with labor and birth, becuase of her being pregnant so close together?

What is a good adoption fee?

Re: Babies

one of the sows MUST have been pregnant when you got it, if you bought them in late june. gestation is about 68-73 days.

Ok. Wow, she was young when she got pregnant.

I am happy that only one baby is female as it is one less guinea pig to give away for find a home for.

Re: Babies

It's too hard to tell without getting them properly sexed. They could have been together in the pet shop and gotten pregnant around the time when she bought them. I'm not sure what the white stuff is, it may be the mucus plug on the sow, but it could also be extra calcium in her urine. A picture would help. A good adoption fee would be around $10-$30.

So you are saying that they both might be females? And that a boar in their cage got her pregnant? If that what you are saying, then does that mean the only males would be in the litter?
The crusty stuff isnt white, its the same color as her(?) skin.

Ok, thanks.

Re: Babies

It's possible she was pregnant when you bought her, but there is still a chance that the other pig is a male. The only way to be sure is to have them all sexed by your vet.

Re: Babies

It's a possibility that both the original pigs are females, and she got pregnant at the pet store and not in your home. However, if you're not sure, separate them just in case until you can get them to a vet to make sure what sex they are.

Then if they are both females why does it look sometimes that one is mounting the other? Or why do they look both female if one is a male?

Re: Babies

Mounting is a dominance behaviour, both sexes do it. They may both be a female, but if you're not 100% sure, I would still get them checked out.
