Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I have looked over some previous threads on grooming, but was unable to find an answer to my question, so I turn to you, guys. One of my guinea pigs is a long haired one. I had to give him his first haircut just a few days ago and I don't think that I've done that good of a job, but then again this is his first one. I trimmed the hair that was covering his eyes (does it hurt his eyesight?), a little bit off his sides and of course his butt. I feel pretty good about the butt part, but his front looks kind of funny. I'm attaching a before and after picture. Any suggestions? Do you guys cut the front? Also, what breed is he, a peruvian? |

What a cutie! I just love how his hair sticks up. I do believe he is a peruvian as his hair falls forward. A silkies falls back. Cutting his hair should not hurt him at all. I have several long hairs and keep their hair short and it has never been a problem. |

I think cutting the hair in front of his eyes is a good idea, it will help him see better. I think you did a great job! He's such a cutie. |

I was just about to ask whether or not it was a good idea to trim my long haired guinea pigs fur when I saw this thread. Thanks for answering the question before it was even asked! |

Trimming them can only help them. They'll either be able to see better, walk without tripping, or get less poo and pee stains in their fur. Even if you're not the best hair stylist and your pig ends up looking a little funny, a trim can't hurt. Your piggy is adorable before AND after his haircut little_russian! What's the little guy's name? |

Thank you, guys! You made me feel so much better about my cutting abilities. His hair grows very fast, so I'll have a lot of practice in the future! Despite LobsterOverlord's very fitting and cute suggestion of Alfalfa , we kept the name Flick, Percy's Mom - it stuck to him when he was little - he would just "flick" away from you. And, Cobalt, I am glad that your question was answered too. Thanks again, everyone. |

He is so cute! Does his hair stick up all over the place on his butt? My peruvians have hair that sticks up after i cut it short and I think that's just about my favorite part of them. ![]() I wish one of my peruvians had white hair. They are coal black, grey-ish black, and almost himi. Long white hair would be so awsome. |

I agree. they are the cutest right after the haircut - and it so easy to run the fingers through and make teh hair stand up whatever way you want! White hair is very cute, but is a bit tough to keep white! I love it though. |
