Question Safe treats for piggies?

What are good treats to give a guinea pig? Are there any that are sold in pet stores that are good for them? (It seems like there are many things that are for sale that aren't really good for the animal they are intended for.) Thanks for your help.

Re: Safe treats for piggies?

Really I wouldn't bother paying extra money for treats for pigs. Mine love their veggies so when they're being extra cute, or during lap time, I give them bits of pepper in addition to their normal veggies. But if your deadset on spending extra money on manufactured treats the stuff at oxbow is supposed to be safe Oxbow Pet Products | Welcome

Re: Safe treats for piggies?

Something I've tried and my piggies really like are dehydrated carrots. I do them myself so I know there are no additives. I give them fresh vegetables every day but these are special treats I can keep right by the cage for the occasional snack. They come in handy when someone else has to watch our piggies over a weekend and I'm not sure they are going to give the fresh vegatables. I've tried the Oxbow Critter Carrots and my piggies just weren't interested. For the most part treats are not necessary.

Other good things to use as occasional special treats are craisins and raisins. Like after you do a nail clipping.

Fundraising shop to help the piggies in our care The nature snack sticks shown on the link are recommended, although I've yet to try my piggers with them. The shop/website is in the UK but there's a good picture for you.

Re: Safe treats for piggies?

To me the best treat is a piece of its favourite veggie given when there is no-one else around to wrestle them for it!

Mine would enjoy melon.
