New Pictures!

Ok, I finally decided to take more pictures.

Here are some pictures of Spike and Junior on their floor time.

Junior and Spike wanted me to tell everyone they are spoiled!

And, my cage. I had to make it smaller because my brother is going to stay with me for awhile. So, I am making room. Spike and Junior are in a 4 x 2 now. It was 4 x 3. If it does not work out, I will make it bigger and find space elsewhere. I am open for suggestions if anyone has them!

Re: New Pictures!

The collection of their stuff is cute. I think we all have more piggy supplies than we'd care to admit. They should both be fine in a 2x4. If they begin fighting you could change it, but I think it'd be ok. Oh, I also like your playtime pen. It's really tall, where did you get it, and are they potty trained to not pee on the carpet? If so, I need some tips!

They are adorable-I'm guessing you have a good rug cleaner.

Re: New Pictures!

They are really cute.
I do like your tall floor time cage,
I had a thought, if you need to make your cage larger, build up instead of out. I just put a second floor on mine today. It is not done yet, but when it is it will be enclosed as well. I have cats. I got the idea from looking at the pictures of other cages on this site in the cage threads.
My girls are actually good about not peeing on the carpet. They like to go behind my recliner chair and do it (I do not have carpet there, I have an area rug). I am glad I spotted it and found out their secret otherwise my nose would have to lead me to it. They sure were not going to tell me.

Re: New Pictures!

Thanks everyone! The tall gate came from my boyfriend's sister in law. I am not sure where she got it. I had a smaller one, but Spike jumped out of it once. I got the smaller one from Walmart. Walmart does sell fish. Does anyone know if this is the same as selling guinea pigs? If it is, I won't buy anything else from there. I did get a carrier from there a few weeks ago. Before I came to the forums I was ignorent. I did not do research on Guinea Pigs and well, I got both my guinea pigs from Petsmart. Not to metion I spent a 100.00 on a cage, and now my cube cage was allot less, plus bigger! When I told someone this on another forum, they yelled at me and told me everything I needed to know from cage care to diet to pig shelters. I am ashamed I did not research. Now that I am aware of everything, I have not been to Petsmart since. Everyone here can yell at me also, because at the time I was irresponsible. However, once Rachy and Jennicat (which are both on this site) showed me all the sites (which one was this site) I quickly fixed my mistakes. But there is no excuse and I am forever sorry I did not get my pigs from a shelter. I ask that everyone here yells at me also. Because I do deserve it.

Re: New Pictures!

Don't beat yourself up too much over your past mistakes. Many of us here started out the same exact way, and then we found the information that we needed to make things right.

You can't blame yourself too much for just doing what the 'conventional (ahem...) wisdom' says. All the books I picked up at a book store on GPs to browse through said the same thing: small cages, limit veggies, don't keep two boys together, etc.

Anyway, your setup is great and your piggers are very spoilt - in the BEST way!

Re: New Pictures!

No need to yell and/or fuss at you. You obviously realize that adopting is better. Lots of us (myself included) have petstore pigs that we bought before coming here and learning.

As far as the fish thing goes, I don't think I've personally ever seen a fish rescue or fish up for adoption.

That is because, unfortunately, people who get sick of their fish either release them into a lake or pond or just flush them down the toliet. Quite sad. But I don't see anything wrong with buying from a place that sells fish. There really isn't any other way to get a hold of them. I have seen a few pet stores that take back fish when they get too big for the tanks people buy from them (i.e They'll sell a ten gallon tank and an oscar baby to a person and then several months later they'll bring the oscar back because it gets too big for the tank).

Jackie it sounds like you've learned a lot and have become a great piggie mommy! Congrats.
