Well my piggy has never done that but she lives alone. My cousin said hers did that. She said she thought they were growling at eachother over a treat or somthing. Basicly she thought her pigs were arguing. This probably doesnt help alot so make sure youask someone eles too incase I am incorrect.

It's rumbling. Males (and often females) make this sound when they are feeling moody or want to argue over something (like an accidental waking up of one, stealing of food, etc.) It's perfectly normal! =)

Based on my experience, it also seems to be a kind of "I'm the boss" noise.

If you mean the purring sound. That's a sound made by males when sexually excited. Both sexes may purr like that also when startled or hear a strange noise. They do not purr if they are angry or are arguing...I think you mean when they chatter their teeth...that's arguing!!

What you've described as purring is actually the same noise as rumbling. The meaning all depends on which piggy it is directed to. If it is to a male it is a dominance noise. If it is to a female it is exactly as you have said. Hope this helps! =)

i've noticed this sound before, and i just got a new baby boar today... i understand that two males will fight for dominance, and that didn't take long as the second is only a baby compared to the young adult first one, but what concernes me is... well... my older male was trying to mount the baby. is this normal? was it just kind of a pin to confirm to himself that he was boss? i mean the baby didn't really fight back at all, just sat there, or ran away (but not in fright, just curiosity, he's quite the adventurer) thanks for any help -mulengro

Its normal, he's just showing the new GP that he's the boss. My boar humped the hell out of my new GP for 3 days, just dominance.
