Piggies pooping where they sleep?

My piggies have a two level cage. Their upper level contains only their igloos for sleeping. The upper level is only a quarter of the size of the bottom. I have put their "pan" under the water and food bowl so when they eat, they poop. However, I noticed that where they sleep (in their igloos), it is literally full of poop! What can I do to help them? I don't want them to sleep in their poop and pee. I do wash their blanket under their igloos daily, but there has to be a way to either help them poop in another place or do something to their igloos to help it stay cleaner. If anyone has any ideas, let me know. Thanks!

They tend to poop where they spend the most time. I don't think there's anything you can do about that.

You can always put a pan of some sort under the piggloos so that its easier clean up. ?

My boys always leave a circle of poop inside the pigloo. When I lift it, it's like a mystrerious crop circle of beans in the cage.

I would just spot clean it at least daily, more if it bothers you.

My pigs tend to do that a lot and sleep there. But I clean there favorite sleep areas out ulmost everyday so that should not be a problem if you do clean those areas out daily.

Poo mattress? What is that? Is that a joke or an actual item? I am only asking because with everything they have out there now, you never know. I thought maybe it was just my piggies. So, should I put their litter pan under their igloos?

Carol I am wondering why you would bother to put a litter pan under their pigloos if you clean out the blankets in them daily? You would still have pigs sleeping in poo but in litter pans. Why bother? Now this is just my thought pattern!

Yes, I guess that doesn't make sense. I just don't understand how they can sleep in their own poop circles and pee. Maybe it's just because it isn't how I was raised. I will continue to clean it out daily, I just hate to have them sleep there.

rocket likes to sleep under his waterbottle in his feeding corner. I find all sorts of poo there, and in his hidey tunnel. I have to vaccuum the cage twice a day.

With my boys, Wiggley will grab the litter box and spend all day long in there, peeing and pooing - sleeping in it, eating in it, and who knows what else he will be doing in that box. As for Ginger, he's a wee bit more considerate. He will fold up the corner of the fleece so that he has his bump tucked in the bedding and poo in there.

I honestly don't think there is anything you can do about stopping them from pooping where they sleep, they are going to do it, seems like they like it, hehe. Of course you want to keep their sleeping area as clean as you can by cleaning it out daily, but unless you are going to stand there 24 hours a day and clean up every poop as it happens, there isnt much you can do, you can't tell the pigs where to poop. This is a pic of my Nismo, literally about 5 minutes after they had their cage cleaned out, he climbed into his tent, spit out a poop and decided to take a nap next to his poopy doll :P

Well, they do eat their poops. Why not sleep in it, it's warm, full of vitamins (literally), and good for their diet. We have nothing to do but respect it and vaccuum it up later.

Yup naptime just isn't the same for a piggy if they don't have a poo pal by their paw, or as mine have been known to do, an inch from their nose as they sleep. Lovely.

I get also get the poo crop circles, and now my pigs have begun to build little poo mounds in one of the houses, despite having and using a litter corner. I think they just can't be bothered moving from their hideys. My suspicions of that are particularly strong now since their cage got enlarged and they do more poos in the hideys ever since. I think they just deem it too far to walk to the litter corner. They also pee a lot in their hideys, so you might want to check the fleece/bedding for damp? Under the houses is always the dirtiest part of my cage. I would only have to change the fleece once a week if they did all their peeing and pooing in the litter corner!
