New mom I recently adopted a couple of cavies and I am having a ton of fun being their new mom. I've had them for about a month now and still experimenting with a lot of things. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to encourage my cavies to run around and exercise. They have a c&c cage (4 cubes x 2) and lots of time in an outside play pen (6 cubes x 6) a day, so I think they have enough room to play. The only time they run around and shuffle is when they hear the rustling of the plastic bag when I put new hay in their cage. I don't mind them eating hay and grass and sleeping all day, but I'm just concerned they're getting a little fat.

Re: New mom It usually take them a couple weeks to get used to you before they start running around. You can try to stragecially place hidey houses and tunnels into a sort of track and hide veggies and hay in them to encourage them to explore. But give them time.

Re: New mom I adopted my last girls in late December of last year and they are still hesitant but are getting better. It just takes time and patience.
