Thumbs down leashes...

My parents bought me this guinea pig leash for my new guinea pig thinking it was cute. I tryed to put it on him but he didn't like it at all. Is it just because he is new and is still afraid of me or are guinea pigs not ment to be put on leashes. The leash was one of thoes that goes around the whole body not just the neck. Has anyone had better luck with them then me?

Leashes for guinea pigs are an awful idea - throw it out. They're not only dangerous (their bodies are too tubular and legs too small to get it secure without running the serious risk of injuring your guinea pig's delicate skeleton) and they hate them. They're not animals that like to be led or constrained and that's why they flip out when they have them on (unless you use it so much they give up which is hardly a selling point). Make them a run or enclose an area for them to run about in freely - that's what they enjoy.

Exclamation

On top of all the other reasons listed, they tend to escape out of the harness. Then you have a run away pig outside. Not a good combination!!!

Trade it for some special toy or treat. Just be sure to thank your parents for the thought, and explain the safety issues with the leash.
