Playing the Introduction Game!

Hello all!

I have 2 wonderful girls that I've been introducing over the past month. One is older and a bit of a grump, but after the first 15 minutes of domination, they both seemed more interested in the floor time than each other. So a few days ago I decided it was time to put them together in one cage. (Yes, I'm going by cavy spirit cage standards)

I observed them for the first half hour - hour or so (mostly because it was so great to watch!!) The older guinea seemed young again as she chased the other around the cage.

There were no major incidents, and I was pleased. Until yesterday. The older one has been making many "purring" sounds, and struts around the cage a lot. I noticed her tendency to chase the other is still ongoing, with a bit of butt nipping.

This isn't constant, it comes and goes in phases, but I was just wondering if this is normal behaviour for sows, or if there's anything I should be doing? They both have separate everything: water bottles, houses, bowls. I just don't want the older sow to terrorize the younger one!

As long as there isn't any bloodshed they are fine. Your sow sounds like she is trying to make it known that she is top pig. Also remember that sows for into heat and during this time they can display actions that you are describing.
