| I think that my piggy (Amy) might be over weight, she is a pretty chubby cavy. I know that it is harder to see certains things that could be wrong with a GP if they are over weight but is it really bad ? If it is any suggestions on what I should do about it ?? Thanks Kait. |

| Cavies are generally chubby creatures. Some cavies are longer than others as well. It'd help if you had a weight for your cavy. I have sows that range from 2lbs. to 2lbs. 12oz. |

| Is it possible to have an over weight guinea pig? My Smooth Haired guinea pig is getting pretty big and his stomach feels really squishy and my other guinea pig doesn't feel like that. Could he be to over weight? |

Also, most adult sows top 1kg. 700g is a young (or sick) pigs weight. LiLPiggiez, if you think your pig might be gaining too much weight, here's a few suggestions to help the problem. It's also helpful to let us know the weight of the pig or post a picture. Be aware that a healthy pig has some weight to it and should be eggplant-shaped when viewed from above. Cutting out pellets - Pellets are very dense and contain a lot of calories, esecially anyting alfalfa based. Oxbow's Cavy Cuisine is timothy based and somewhat less rich. Even if you feed pellets daily, make sure they're getting only 1/8 cup (2 tablespoons) each. More Floor Time - Pigs love floor time. It's like taking them out to play. My pigs run all over my living room, so not only will your pigs be healthier but happier too. Veggies - Cut out starchy veggies like carrots and eliminate fruit treats, since fruit is fairly high in sugar. Stick to the green leafy veggies. Just to be sure never, ever withhold food from a pig. |
