Another Piggy?

I have had my GP for a while now. I didnt know how important it was to have two of them until I found this site. Now I think it is really important to get another one for my girl. But,(as I am only 13) my parent says that another piggy will just make more noise,more mess,require more cleaning,and that my piggy is just fine anyway. Do you think that is true? Anyone who can tell me about having 2, please write !I hope I can get another one! Thanks!

I have two pigs. No, I actually have six. While six is a lot of piggies (only to some!), two or even three pigs is quite reasonable. Costs go up about 25% per additional piggie.

Guinea pigs in pairs are quite interesting, watching them interact is entertaining. Just make sure you have a cage large enough to support additional pigs as lack of space can cause them to fight.

I've found through my own experiences that a third pig adds a substantial social benefit, especially if one has a boar/sow pair (neuter or spay required!). I have two boar/sow/sow trios and they get along quite well in a 3x4 C&C.

She is worried about all the noise/mess that they will make. Any comments on that???

Build a large enough cage that's easy to keep clean, and smell is not an issue. Our house smells good.

And the only noise you'll have is at veggie time (WHEEEEEEK!). But I find it most pleasant.

The amount of noise really depends on the pigs. I have 2 that wheek and squeal when they hear the hay rattle, when they hear the food bag or when I make the "Hey, I am bringing you veggies" noise (a kissy noise) They also wheek and talk to me for no specific reason. I have one that is almost totally silent. She may give a chatter now and again, if she doesn't want to be picked up. I can get her to purr occasionally when she is cuddling in my lap but most of the time, she is just a quiet pig.

It is just the difference in personality. The only real noise that I get is when the girls start running laps in their cages.

There is no great mess with more than one either. The key is to have a large enough cage. Petunia's little shoebox petstore cage was a nightmare to keep clean. She is in an almost 3x2 C&C now. Not only is is easier to spot clean and she has more room, it also doesn't smell (except like timothy hay)

I actually live with my husbands parents, and my father-in-law is scared of anything small and furry, regardless of what it is. He effectively refers to my pig as 'The Hamster' LOL but I've had no trouble keeping pigs upstairs, as most of the noise they make doesn't carry to any other room :P

As for the mess.. Well.. My Guinea Pigs make loads of mess alone anyway (When they do laps in their cage and parts of the bedding goes flying out o_o) but they certainly don't smell!

As for cost, well, I dunno about where you live, but here, it's cheaper for us to buy veggies etc in bulk, rather than the odd one or two, so effectively, we save money by sharing loads of food around LOL
