Re: Pink spots??? Where in the cage are the spots? It could be something as simple as oxidized urine spots or as serious as blood. There's no way to even guess without more information.

Re: Pink spots??? I saw a piece of light pink corn cob in his food dish... we use corncob as bedding. Then, last night while I was cleaning his cage, my sister had him out for floor time, and when we put him in his clean cage, I saw a pink dot on the carpet. ~x.n.d.x

Re: Pink spots??? Like Percy's Mom said, it could be oxidized urine or blood. Take a white towel you don't want. Place piggie on said towel. Wait for them to pee. If it's pink right away, it's probably blood. If it's clear or cloudy and then turns a rust color, that's the pee drying and turning a different color. However, with piggies, it's always better to err on the side of caution and take said piggie to the vet. Also, is your pig making a high-pitched "Ow!" squeak when peeing? that would definitely be a sign to take to the vet right away. Good luck to you and your pig!

Re: Pink spots??? The bedding is part of the problem. Corncob isn't exactly the softest thing in the world, can actually be quite rough, and can scratch or get stuck in sensitive piggy parts. Please read this information on what bedding to avoid for your guinea pigs. http://www.guinealynx.info/bedding_avoid.html

Re: Pink spots??? in his food dish Does your boar carry a heavy package behind him? My vet says the best thing for boars is the fleece. Many boars have such large testicles and they can get injured easily.

Re: Pink spots??? Since fleece is made to quickly dry many people (including myself) use it as a top layer in their cage. There are many different varriations of layers (with fleece always on top): fleece, towel, newspaper; fleece, towel, mattress pad; fleece, badding, towels; fleece and puppy pads; and so on. The trick is to use something absorbant underneathe the fleece, this way the fleece whicks the moisture away and is absorbed by the absorbant layer underneathe. All you have to do is either sweep up or vaccume up poops twice a day and through the layers in the washer once or twice a week. My piggers love it.

Re: Pink spots??? Go to Environment, bedding and hay and on page 5 you will find more than enough info on fleece. Look all around in that category on fleece.

Re: Pink spots??? One of our boys has humongous testes that drag. We use fleece. I can't imagine using anything else. Ours goes (top to bottom) Fleece > Towels > Disposable Puppy Pads. We change out the cage fully every 5 days or so and do a poop scoop daily. I'm thinking of switching to crib pads which are reusable.
