We're new to Texas and have gotten into the barbecue scene. Naturally, this means we have hickory wood hanging around. Is hickory okay for chewing? What woods are and aren't safe?

Re: Is hickory wood safe? I know cedar is not good. I understand that pine and aspen are fine. Not sure about the Hickory however. I'm sure someone here will set that straight.

Re: Is hickory wood safe? For chewing, I don't think it is... At least, I've never heard of it being used. I know the best way to go is with apple, birch, or willow branches. There's probably more, but I don't know them. :]

Re: Is hickory wood safe? I would say no to hickory, they are a nut tree and from everything I've read nut trees are no-nos. Stick with fruit tree branches.

Re: Is hickory wood safe? Thanks for all your replies. I thought it would be a good idea to ask knowledgeable folk first, so I haven't allowed it yet and now I won't.
