| Piggy Eater!!!! My guinea is a picky (piggy) eater! He's 2 years old, and I got him about 3 weeks ago from a humane society where I volunteer. He only likes very specific things; lettuce is ther only thing he'll eat any kind of! But anyway, his carrots-he only eat a specific kind of teeny, tiny baby carrots from Walmart-these are the most expensive of course! My baby won't even touch an orange! At the humane society where we got him they said he loved apples, but since we got him home he doesn't like the kind of apples we have! He likes parsley too, but I only had that once because in my town our grocery store doesn't have any! I think I'm going to start a garden this summer, and grow lettuce, parsely, and try some carrots to see if he will eat these! I don't think there is really anything I can do, but to keep trying different foods! He's 2 years old, and i think he already knows what he likes, and what he doesn't! He also doesn't eat to awful much of his GP pellets either! This can't be good for him! The guy practically lives off of lettuce!!!! Just wantedto tell you about my piggy eater!! guineagal92 |

| Re: Piggy Eater!!!! If you go slowly and introduce small amounts of new veggies daily and maybe even nibble some in front of him, I bet in time he would learn how to eat new foods. Last year I had a 1+ year old boar that was an owner dump. He'd rarely ever had veggies his entire life. Within 2-3 weeks, I had him eating about 15 different types of veggies/fruits. I would get a plain vitamin C chewable tablet with no sugar or less than 2 grams of sugar from a health food store and start giving him 50 mg per day to make sure he's getting enough. Lettuce and an occasional carrot is not going to provide enough C. If he doesn't eat many pellets, that's not providing enough C either. |
