you cant tell for sure if their pregnant for a while. guinea pig gestation is about 70 days. my vet said to mark on the calender when they mated and then count 70 days ahead. this should tell you the aproximate day that yougp is due. your other girl might not mate because she is probably not in heat. if you leave them together for about three weeks then you can be pretty much certain that she has mated and concieved. make sure your girls are no younger than four months ond no older than eight months. if they are any older their pelvic bones fuse together and it is phisicay imposible for the sow to give birth. you have to have a vet do a c-section or your pig will die. good luck with your babies. if you have anymore questions about gp pregnancy email me. oh i almost forgot, make sure your pregnant piggies get twice as much vitamin c. good luck and congrats!

I absolutely WILL NOT ALLOW any discussions of INTENTIONAL breeding on this forum.

You will be banned if there is one more word about it or advice about it given.

Breeding guinea pigs puts your animals LIFE AT RISK. Not to mention all the other reasons why you so shouldn't be breeding.

See this page: www.cavyspirit.com/breeding.htm

Separate the males from the females IMMEDIATELY.

for the record mine are getting fixed this week. none of mine have died and i didnt find out about all the risks untill my pigs had alrady had three litters. i actually kept most of the pigglets and the other one my moms friend(who is a small animal vet by the )found the other babie homes with her co workers.i am sorry you dont aprove of this. i know it can be hazerdous that is why i am stopping.dont you think that educated people with pregnant pigs are beter than non educated ones?i was just trying to help.once again i am sorry to have offended you by educating the iggnorant, i thought that was one of the things this site was supposed to accomplish.i am very sorry if you have had a bad experience but all six of the litters that i have witnessed turned out fine. i do understand though. i recently lost a hevily prgnant dalmation sow to pregnancy toxemia. i had rescued her from a deplorable situation. i found out that even though she looked to be due within days she actualy wasnt due for three weeks. i had her for almost a week before she had a siezure in my mother's arms and died.we were going to take her to the vet that day.it was very sad and very sressfull. you could actually feel her babies moving for a few minutes after she died. it broke my heart. her cagemate and her were in horrible shape when i got them.i told you this so you would relize that i do know the perils of breeding. if this person chooses to breed her pigs than i think that they should have all the information they can possibly get so that they might improve their gps chances for survival.

tashagurl, Please do me a favor and take the time to capitalize the beginning of your sentences (as I ask on the posting policy at the top of every entry screen), I find them very hard to read. Breaking long text up into paragraphs helps, too.

About this issue, I really don't care what your breeding experience is. I'm not going to take the time to spell out my position when it is very public in many forums and especially on the Cavy Spirit website. "if this person chooses to breed her pigs than i think that they should have all the information they can possibly get so that they might improve their gps chances for survival." Wrong. That may be what you think this forum is about, but it isn't. It's about cages and other related things. I will have NO PARTY to helping anyone breed. Period. End of story. There are plenty of sites and forums to read and participate on other than this one.

If you don't like my position and I sound too harsh, well, so be it. Reading and posting here is voluntary.

I'm glad you are getting yours fixed.

Thanks for the advice. I was looking into adopting another soon. it would have to be a sow though. I live in San Diego. Could I adopt from Cavey Spirit or would I have to find a closer rescue?
