Question Toys

Are grass and willow toys safe for guinea pigs? And chinchillas?

I saw some of these at www.critterstore.com (http://www.critterstore.com/sp-60398.html) and thought my pigs/chins might like them, but am concerned about safety.

Have any of you used them successfully?

Re: Toys

Looks fine. It's a grass tunnel. The pigs may pee inside it though. You can also use soda boxes or cardboard boxes.

Re: Toys

I have a grass house and would recommend that but the tunnels and roll a nest balls get peed on and then rot. It's all safe but some of them break down faster. Someone also mentioned some of the grass hidey have a wire frame that could be dangerous when alot of it is exposed. The grass house I got from there doesn't seem to. The spot where it's either been broken or chewed apart it has a frame of bent straw or stemmy hay. They should last at least several months either way. My house didn't have problems until after 6months and still works but has a bare spot. I also don't know of any pigs actually getting injured from even the wire framed ones. You can wrap it back up in hay or just throw it away when the frame is visible.

Re: Toys

Thanks so much! I think I'm going to pass on the hidey house and nest ball, but I found a grass matt that I think they'll enjoy. I appreciate all your comments!

I've folded by grass matt in half and used it as a little hidey tent. I was afraid that after it was peed on a few times it would rot... so this way they get to enjoy it without my fears of moldy grass.
