Buying Gifts for Your Cavies?

Ok How many of you have bought or are going to buy presents for your piggies?

I have a cute child-proof mirror that says Princess on it. I'm going to hang it in the girls' cage.

I also bought a small pet bed at Dollar General for $6 today.

I'm supposed to be getting two cozies from a girl on GL since I donated money to the WI hay fund.

I'm going to buy the girls a few fleece blankets for their cage. I saw some really cute red ones with white snowflakes at Walmart.

And I want to get them another cuddle cup.

I'm not sure if I should wrap them up individually or do them all together in a box.

I'm going to have to order a few of Ly's caves for my other two girls when they get here. So, I should have plenty of squishy things for everyone to rest on. Yeah.

Re: Buying Gifts for Your Cavies?

One of my gifts to the girls is to expand their cage into the recommended size. I decided as long as I am expanding, I would do a desert theme. I found a hammock, a fleece tunnel, and 3 cuddle cups online with a desert type theme. I also ordered them apple sticks to chew. I couldn't wait until Christmas to give them everything so I gave them one apple stick early. Luckily they loved it! I am also going to make them some hidey houses out of coroplast and different tunnels out of cardboard. I am going to rotate various toys throughout the cage. They seem kind of bored with the cage now, but I'm waiting until I expand so they have enough room for toys and running. I know it's something they need, but it was easiest to get my boyfriend to agree if I incorporated it all as a christmas present.

Re: Buying Gifts for Your Cavies?

I bought two cuddle cups and just ordered two hammocks. The girls loved their old hammock, but the middle of it wore away so it was time to replace it. I'm also expanding their cages, which should be done tomorrow assuming the chloroplast comes in on time.

My mom even buys my animals gifts. She said she was buying the pigs something, but I'm not sure if she got anything yet. Guess I'll find out next week.

Re: Buying Gifts for Your Cavies?

I need some ideas. I was thinking hammock, tunnel, maybe even one of Ly's famous cavy caves?

Re: Buying Gifts for Your Cavies?

Mine did have a dog sofa for Christmas. But they got that last month.

Now they have a small dog bed - a donut one, extra squishy. It is wrapped (as well as it can be) and waiting for piggy poops and pee to invade it in 10 days time.

I honestly don't know what to get them other than the dog bed. They have everything else - all the blankets, toys, cozies they need. I don't even have space for much more! They are getting a lovely herb salad on the day though, so they should be happy!

Re: Buying Gifts for Your Cavies?

I don't know if I am getting anything specifically for them either. I'm going to look for some fleece tonight, and maybe see if I can find some new toy for them, something that makes noise. My mom usually gets my rabbit something for christmas, but I'm not sure is she is this year.

Re: Buying Gifts for Your Cavies?

Jenn, we have those snowflake blankets in our cage! The boys LOVE them. I think they're partial to red.

Other than that, we figure that we "gave" Oreo two new buddies & a better place to live, and we gave the other two a new friend & a bigger house. And with the bigger home they got a new hammock, and they've already gotten a Christmasey bed.

So our Christmas gifts to the boys will be to finish building the table for the new cage so they're up off the floor again, and to pick up another set of fleece for their house and a giant mountain of some of the more rare veggies & herbs that they love! Oh yeah... and the kids will be painting some ceramic piggie bowls for the boys. They have enough, but with 3 piggies we think they need a few bigger ones for their veggies.

Re: Buying Gifts for Your Cavies?

A new cage to match my daughters new room. Her room is being re-done in leopard. So we are going from white grids and yellow coro, to black grids and black coro. I will be getting all new fleece...LEOPARD print.

Re: Buying Gifts for Your Cavies?

They're getting Eddie as a new friend, each get new pigloos, expanded cage from 2x3 split cage w/ 2.5x1 split lower loft to 3x4 split cage, keeping the lower loft and adding a "L" shaped 1x3x1 loft. They will enjoy the extra room. And anything else that catched my eye while shopping for them.

Re: Buying Gifts for Your Cavies?

I am part of a family who owns a pet store in Mt. Pleasant, SC. I have seen all of the new goods that we got in for the cavies. There are some very nifty things. They are:
~Critter Cones (these have been out, but now look like scoops)
~grass mats/houses. They are nifty, but havent gotten them in.
~shredded veggie chews, available in corn, broccoli (?), and carrot
~brushes and nail clippers specifically for your cavy.
~You could also buy a doggy/kitty stroller for your cavy, and take him with you.
~doggy back packs, put your cavy in, and take him with you!

Re: Buying Gifts for Your Cavies?

Billypig, that all sounds so cool! The petshop up the road hasn't got very many good pig toys. And all the stuff there is expensive. I might go to the enormous pet shop one day.
